This final shot from the Museum of Garden History shows the traditional artform of auricula theatres. This is a modern version of a much older design. The idea is that the black or dark brown background shows the auricula's colours to best advantage. I've sometimes seen versions of this at Flower Shows like Chelsea and Hampton Court, but this one shows the naive style of the original artform. Don't think I'd like one in my own garden, but it's interesting nonetheless.
