i began photographing stenciled graffiti while living in Paris in the late 80's. I noticed beautiful artwork on the walls of buildings in run-down areas while on long walks in the city. Later on i realized that much of the work was made by Misstic and Bleck-le rat. In the past ten years i lived in London, UK and followed the street-art scene develop. Little by little the scene moved from the margins to the mainstream through gallery venus and book publications, as today, the mainstream has completely appropriated this art form, the show at Tate Modern an example of this. I am quite ambiguous about this process that's happened because i fear something has been lost through this move to the mainstream while i am happy for the artists who achieve recognition and finance (though of course this is not always the case). I continue following the scene, documenting this work and am eager to see how it develops further. The internet has been a wonderful utility in that it enabled the internationalization of the street art scene and development of its communities.
